Import customers and leads
Map, preview, and confirm a CSV without inheriting consent or payment data.
Open Customers → Import CSV or Leads → Import CSV in the Admin workspace. An import has three steps:
- Choose a CSV with a header row. Files are limited to 1,000 data rows and 500,000 bytes.
- Map each header to a Grout field. Any column can be left ignored.
- Review exact create, update, and reject counts, then Confirm. No customer or lead is written during mapping or preview.
Email and phone are the matching keys. Re-running the same file updates the matching records instead of creating duplicates. Repeat a customer on another row to add another address for that person.
Rejected rows show their CSV row number and reason. Download them, correct the values, and upload that smaller CSV again. The download neutralizes spreadsheet formula prefixes.
Consent cannot come from a spreadsheet. Every imported customer or lead is opted out of email and text marketing, including an existing contact updated by the import. Payment methods, payment history, company IDs, and sign-in accounts cannot be mapped. Imported leads always use the Imported source.
The original CSV stays in the import screen only and is not stored. Once an import is confirmed, Activity records its file name, entity, counts, and the administrator who confirmed it.
